Welcome to the Shu Ha Ri Do website. Although Shuhari is a Japanese word, Shu Ha Ri Do is influenced by Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Jeet Kune Do and other systems. My title is Sifu however, I could have just as easily been called Shihan. The word Shu Ha Ri describes the stages of learning all the way to mastery. It is sometimes referred to in other disciplines, as Go. Shuhari roughly translates to "to imitate, to create, to master". This site is all about martial arts techniques, inspiring quotes, safety, awareness, and uncommon knowledge regarding self mastery under the Kingdom of Heaven. Interested in training in Shu Ha Ri Do martial arts visit 17842 S Dixie Hwy 33157 Monday and Wednesday 4:30 to 7:00 pm or contact Sifu G. at email@example.com.
Go the extra mile and get more out your body by increasing it’s range of motion. Below are several stretch tools one of which I use personally which is the one at the bottom of this list. I highly recommend using something from this list to improve your performance!
Greetings everyone I strive to deliver stimulating content to you at least every other day. I have been preoccupied with some very important matters that had my focus temporarily divided, but now I am back with an article that I am sure you will find interesting. In the video below I share a principle that is an important part of FLEX FIST BOXING (Conventional Boxing is also a big part of what I teach). After watching this video please refer to the links below for more info on Shu Ha Ri Do FLEX FIST BOXING.
Greetings everyone, in Shu Ha Ri Do the jab is a big part of how we dictate and control the pace of fights. In fact there have even been knockouts based on how I teach the jab. Maximizing the mechanics that I teach helps you to develop the knockout power that I speak of, with just the jab. Click here for a video of one of my students ALFONSO “CHOC” FRIERSON from the DAWGFIGHT documentary executing the power of the “Shu Ha Ri Do Jab” with surgical precision. However, the video I present to you below is about using the jab while moving forward.
Greetings everyone in this video I share with you useful techniques for gaining control of an opponent and taking him or her down. Do not just practice this once or twice. To simply become discipline at it you must have the mind-set to do it 1000 times. To become a master at any technique you must have the mindset to do it 10,000 times. When you have that many repetitions under your belt, you no longer have to think, things just become automatic.
Whether liquid, solid, or vapor what can resist water? In a word, nothing! There is much to be learned simply by observing water. Much that can be applied to our lives. I have mentioned in a previous post how my ultimate inspiration JESUSsaid “I am the living water” and how another inspiration of mine Bruce Lee said “be water my friend”. Well, I would like to share a quote with you from another person who inspired me.
LAO TSE’S THOUGHTS ON WATER
Nothing in the world is as soft and yielding as water. Yet for dissolving the hard and inflexible, nothing can surpass it. The soft overcomes the hard, the gentle overcomes the rigid.
Everyone knows this is true, but few put it into practice. Therefore the Master remains serene in the midst of sorrow. Evil cannot enter his heart. Because he has given up helping, he is the people’s greatest help. True words seem paradoxical. -Lao Tse-
I would like to add a little more insight into what Lao Tse means when he says “because he has given up helping, he is the people’s greatest help”. When we think of helping someone most times we think of putting forth effort. For many, to help does not come natural it is something that they have to remind or force themselves to do, which requires effort. However, when you think in terms of water, ask yourself where is the effort in water?
There is none, water is effort-LESS. We will become the “greatest” help when our help to humanity is effortless. This requires wisdom. The wisdom to know that there are systems of oppression in place that have broken the backbone of children and families everywhere! Once you become aware of and acknowledge this fact, compassion should be automatic. Then whatever you can offer to uplift, inspire, inform, and protect children and families should be given freely and effortlessly. Just how water flows, and changes from one form to the next effortlessly, so you should live your life.
This is a big part of the meaning of the Shu Ha Ri Do symbol. This is how I live. If it inspires you I encourage you to walk the path with me. Please feel free to browse the many articles I written on this blog there is so much powerful information that I share here. It is my hope that I have inspired some. Godspeed in your quest for self mastery under the Kingdom of Heaven…
Hello everyone, I just wanted to inform and inspire you today about the God given awesomeness of the body. Something that YOU are in charge of. However, as we become adults very little is taught about how to master our bodies. In fact much of what we learn within popular culture like movies and music is how to destroy our bodies all under the guise of “having a good time”. Indeed not only are we making “bad music” with our bodies, many of us have no idea that we are the conductors of the “orchestra”. Below is an info graphic of human anatomy. Now, we are all aware of these things but do you really have any conscious connection to them? This leads me to another question. What is keeping your breathing right now? Moreover, what keeps you breathing while you are sleeping? The answer is, YOU do! Doubting the inner you? Okay take a moment say “who am I” in your mind. Now ask yourself two questions, what mouth said that? What ears heard it?
The subconscious you takes care of everything, it never sleeps. It is always attentive, around the clock quite effortlessly so. Speaking of clocks, this leads me to the number 12. Below is a schedule of what happens within your body throughout the day all governed by the “conductor” the subconscious you.
You see your body is like an orchestra of which you are the conductor telling which “instrument” to play which notes at the right “times”. As you can see there are 12 main regions or in this case”instruments” marked by time zones.
This is an info graphic about the “Triple Burner” listed on the image showing the 12 zones. I decided to go into further detail because “Triple Burner” is not something the average person can readily identify with. Take a moment to review what the Triple Burner is and does. Okay, from what you have read so far it should be clear that you are indeed the conductor of some pretty powerful “instruments”.
However, if uninformed the conscious you can be pretty oblivious to this delicate balance and can actually cause the wrong notes to be played creating “bad music” in your body. It all has to do with choices. For example, drunkenness, drug use, terrible diets, smoking, lack of sleep, embracing anxious and pessimistic thoughts, and living a life of rage and anger all wreak havoc on the harmonious “music” the subconscious you wants to produce.
The way out of having a negative influence on the “music” coming from your body is to become conscious of the subconscious you and how hard it works to preserve you. To live a lifestyle that is in harmony with that process. This is another side of what I mean when I say “Self Mastery Under The Kingdom Of Heaven”. Learn more about the schedule of your body and get in tune with those processes. Do nothing that will hinder or damage the 12 “instruments” or time zones.
Educate yourself and become a “master conductor” of the “music” coming from your body. Not just for what is happening inside of you which directly affects you, but what happens outside of you that directly affects others. Let the sounds coming from your voice and the actions coming from your body be like the most inspiring and powerful “music” anyone has ever heard!
If you are having trouble imagining what I mean and how you can make this happen. Simply browse through my articles, there are hundreds and you will see a consistent stream of powerful and inspiring “music” coming from my life. You can do it too you have God given talents and abilities, there is a mission set aside that only you can fulfill, be informed, be inspired! Godspeed in your quest!
Greetings everyone, in my book “Harness the Power Within and Without” I cover Shu Ha Ri Do concepts for self mastery under the Kingdom of Heaven. Below is a powerful excerpt from that book. It is my hope that this article inspires you in your journey.
“FROM HARNESS THE POWER WITHIN AND WITHOUT”: In the Shu Ha Ri Do Symbol the body is represented by water. What are the attributes of water? Its calm, it’s cool. However based on the stimulus it can flow rhythmically or crash violently, water can be vaporous like steam or
solid like ice. Its versatile it reacts instantly, overtime it will dissolve anything its perfect. To quote the ultimate inspiration in my life Jesus said he is the living water. To quote another major inspiration in my life Bruce Lee said we should be like water, be like water indeed, when faced with any challenge
in life reacting with sound judgment should be your goal. At times the body could be spurred into action quite impulsively, like when in a verbal or physical confrontation. This is when mistakes, sometimes costly ones are made. What spurred you into action? Your mind of course, the good thing about the body’s relation to water is that it reacts to stimulus the bad thing can be just that, it reacts to a stimulus.
What type of reaction depends on the morals, ethics, values, and condition response patterns established in our minds.
We are accountable for what we do through our bodies it starts with how we think. Thinking before reacting is a big part of being wise. This is what I mean when I say “WISDOM BEFORE COMBAT”.
In “Harness the Power Within and Without” I go into more detail about the mind and it’s influence on the body. Feel free to visit the book page on amazon to read more about “Harness the Power Within and Without”.
I am writing this article because I want everyone to have a clearer understanding of the mission of Shu Ha Ri Do. If you are a student, subscriber, or follower of this blog or the Shu Ha Ri Do youtube channel then you are already aware that I Sifu G. created Shu Ha Ri Do in 1998. Since then I have published 4 books and a magazine. The articles I publish on this blog are very helpful and thought provoking. However, I felt the need to formally say that my allegiance is to the Kingdom of Heaven, God, and his son Yeshua. However, I do not subscribe to a religious ritualistic view. I subscribe to a moral, truthful, honorable, faithful, bible based lifestyle. I call it a righteous lifestyle, a Kingdom lifestyle. Such a lifestyle that we would encourage our children to embrace. A lifestyle of helping, caring for, and protecting others. A lifestyle of leading by example. So, if you are familiar with the hundreds of articles I have written on this blog you will see this consistent theme. A theme that can be summarized with these types of words.
These words summarize what Shu Ha Ri Do is all about. These words outline the mission. The final words of protection and safety are vital to me. Vital because what good is love without protection, what good is morality without safety. No one should feel the least bit of guilt or hesitation about being prepared to keep safe those who are weak, at risk, or those you love. It is my hope that you are inspired by these types of attributes and find them just as valuable for children and families as I do. It is also my hope that wherever you are, you will be motivated to cultivate these attributes in your life and the lives of those you love. Until next time GODspeed everyone…
When it comes to greatness in anything, there is a thin line of separation. Finding that edge that will separate you from good to better is one thing. however, find the edge to greatness is very difficult and many don’t achieve it. In this video I appreciate George St. Pierre’s approach to finding that edge.
What do you see in this picture? Looks pretty much like worthless scrap metal. So many of us can relate to feeling worthless at some point in our lives. Just another “rat” in the “race”. Or in this case just another piece of scrap metal on the pile entangled with all the other pieces. Sometimes although we know we are entangled, those entanglements become comfort zones preventing growth.
Then, as if feeling worthless at times isn’t bad enough life can heat you UP to the point that you feel like you are melting DOWN. It can seem unfair, and with how those who are “in power” show no compassion, that just may be the reality.
Now, here is where things seem to get even more out of hand but it happens. Not only are we dealing with our own feelings of self worth, and life heating us up, but we actually encounter people and circumstances that strive to beat us down.
Then, just as things seem to be totally hopeless the heating and the beating stops, and life seems to “cool” down. Things seem to take shape again.
You see, as many of you know, I like to use analogies and parables to convey concepts, and processes of life. This analogy of the “becoming of the sword” surgically illustrates what happens to us in life. However, what we “become” as a result is up to us. If we refuse to “melt down” when life “heats up”. If we refuse to stay down when people or circumstances strive to “beat” us down, we will become as razor sharp as the Katana sword. I speak from experience. Life’s processes have made me razor sharp, and continue to sharpen me daily because I always expand my knowledge and application. So, if swords could speak they would tell us a story of how they became what they are. They would tell us how worthless they once thought they were before they became a sword. They would tell us about the heating and the beating and how much it hurt, and then they would tell how they have become sharp enough to slice through any problem life had to offer. In closing, I would like to ask each of you, who do you think the “Blacksmith” sharpening you is… GODspeed in your quest…
