Welcome to the Shu Ha Ri Do website. Although Shuhari is a Japanese word, Shu Ha Ri Do is influenced by Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Jeet Kune Do and other systems. The word Shu Ha Ri describes the stages of learning all the way to mastery. Shuhari roughly translates to imitation, creation, perfection. Please feel free to browse the 100's articles. Greetings everyone, it is my pleasure to announce that one of my students Alfonso “CHOC” Frierson got a 1st round K.O. in his pro boxing debut. CHOC has been training with me for 8 years. He has excelled as a student utilizing my principles of “Flex Fist Boxing” and other Shu Ha Ri Do concepts. Although I also teach conventional boxing he also has two boxing conditioning coaches Robert and Ray Chavez who have done an excellent job preparing him. As of now I do not have video footage of the fight, I am waiting for it to be released so stay tuned to the site for updates. Greetings everyone, in this post I am pleased to share with you one of my “Flex Fist Boxing” principles. The “Hinge Fist”. I call it Hinge Fist because of the “opening door” effect of the movement, and because the joint of the arm actually works like hinges on a door. This is one of the “principles of speed” I write about in my book “Flex Fist Boxing”. Well, now that I’ve said that enjoy the video.
When it comes to greatness in anything, there is a thin line of separation. Finding that edge that will separate you from good to better is one thing. however, find the edge to greatness is very difficult and many don’t achieve it. In this video I appreciate George St. Pierre’s approach to finding that edge.
Such focus! Such intensity! Such control! Such dedication to discipline! No one can deny or minimize what such a foundation can do for children. Who will dare say that such training is not beneficial for their lives, just look at them!
Kung fu is one of the styles that influenced the creation of Shu Ha Ri Do. It is a big part of what I teach, and why I wear a Kung Fu uniform. To clarify, the reason you may see my students wear traditions gi’s is because my transition in the martial arts went from the hard styles of Karate to the soft styles of Kung Fu, to the creation of Shu Ha Ri Do. Hello everyone, welcome to segment #2 of “Best Street Defense”. In this video I will be showing a very simple but useful strike to the ear that can incapacitate someone quickly. Remember, repetition is the key to mastery, 1,000 reps for discipline and 10,000 reps for mastery!
This is a technique featured in phase one level two of Shu Ha Ri Do. This is what I call “simultaneous block and strike”. To do the technique correctly you must be sure to move your head in addition to the slip block. The slip block is like guiding your opponents punch over your shoulder and returning a strike at the same time. Repetition is key to mastering this and any other technique. You must repeat, repeat, repeat, and repeat again.
As I have mentioned before, within Shu Ha Ri Do there are 7 phases. Blue the “Animalistic” phase is the 4th. In this video I present a newly promoted blue belt student with his belt and his first tie. In the “animalistic” phase students train in the characteristics, nature, and fight attributes of the Boa,Elephant, and Eagle.
Hello everyone in this video you will see scenes featuring two of my students testing for gold and red belt. There are 7 phases in Shu Ha Ri Do, gold belt is the 2nd phase and red belt is the 5th phase. I am pleased to say that they passed their tests. This video shows a good cross section of what the physical techniques of Shu Ha Ri Do are about. Boxing, kickboxing, kung fu, full contact karate, judo, wrestling, submissions, my signature “Flex Fist Boxing, and Combat Maneuvers (COMS).
