Welcome to the Shu Ha Ri Do website. Although Shuhari is a Japanese word, Shu Ha Ri Do is influenced by Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Jeet Kune Do and other systems. My title is Sifu however, I could have just as easily been called Shihan. The word Shu Ha Ri describes the stages of learning all the way to mastery. It is sometimes referred to in other disciplines, as Go. Shuhari roughly translates to "to imitate, to create, to master". This site is all about martial arts techniques, inspiring quotes, safety, awareness, and uncommon knowledge regarding self mastery under the Kingdom of Heaven. Interested in training in Shu Ha Ri Do martial arts visit 17842 S Dixie Hwy 33157 Monday and Wednesday 4:30 to 7:00 pm or contact Sifu G. at email@example.com.
In Shu Ha Ri Do there are 7 phases. The fourth phase deals with animalistic obstervations and principles. I teach students animalistic fighting forms that I created in 1998. One of them is the bird, more specifically the eagle. The focus however, is not to simply fight with movements like an eagle, but to copy the useful character and nature of the eagle. In this post I outline some of the character traits.
THE ARE FEARLESS CREATURES
When confronted eagles will never surrender no matter the circumstances.
How courageous are you when faced with opponents?
EAGLES HAVE VISION
Eagle is 4 to 5 times stronger than humans they can detect a prey nearly 2 miles away!
Are you short sighted with your life? What type of vision do you have?
THE ARE PRECISE
Nothing compares to the precision of we witness seeing an eagle snatch a fish out of the water!
How precise are you with your life, work, family, etc.? Are you sloppy?
EAGLES LOVE USING STORMS TO THEIR ADVANTAGE
Though most animals hide in fear during storms. Eagles actually get excited during storms using the winds to lift them high above it.
Do you see storms of life as breaking you down, destroying you? Or do you see them as opportunities for growth?
Eagles fly at high altitudes that no other birds can reach.
Do you think all that you are good for is to be a bottom dweller?
Male and female eagles assume powerful roles during family planning. Once the female eagle chooses a high place in the cliffs out of reach of predators the male goes to work building the nest. Making several trips back and forth the male layers the surrounding areas of the cliff with thorns, grass, twigs, more thorns, grass and twigs. He continues this process until the surrounding area is impenetrable by predators and the nest is layer on the outside with thorns, and the inside with grass.
What can of architect are you? What are you building? What will be your legacy? Who will call you mommy or daddy? Who calls you that now? How have you prepared for them?
A fuse box and a spinal column. What do these two images have in common? Scroll to the info-graphic below for further clarification…
Your spine is basically the fuse box of the body. Your nerves are like electrical wires delivering power to your limbs and so much more throughout the body. Your brain is like a power plant that the spine is connected to. How is you brain empowered? Righteously or un-righteously? Whose house are you???
What am I getting at in this post you ask? Well the title says it all. What kind of tree are you? In the bible Yashuah (Jesus) said a good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. So, what kind of fruit are you baring? What kind of tree are you? What I mean by the statement “THE OAK IS IN THE ACORN” is that the the content within the acorn is the blue print for the oak tree.
Seeing what an acorn can become is pretty amazing. With that being said I must ask you, 3 questions. What is your content? What is your blue print? What will you become? “Becoming” is based on content, which becomes the substance of the blue print of your life. Content can be clarified by this phrase “source of learning”. What is your source of learning, is it based on materialism, partying, drug use, drunkenness, promiscuity, disrespect,
scamming, gossip, infidelity, anger, rage, betrayal, jealousy, envy of others, hatred, arguing, trouble making, bullying etc. Clearly, those things would be considered “bad fruit”, and no good tree bares bad fruit. So again I ask what is your content (type of learning). Are you in an environment that endorses those negative qualities, giving you a pat on the back for living that way? Are you constantly listening to music and watching “programming” that glamorizes those qualities? Meditate on this very carefully and be honest with yourself, when you do you will see clearly the things you must eradicate from your life.
Now, that I have covered that, the next question is, what should you add? Before I tell you allow me to clarify that what I share is not about religion, but relationship, and lifestyle, a Kingdom lifestyle. I do not view the bible religiously I view it as the true and wise blue print for the righteous life that would make God proud of us. Now that I have said that, here is a scripture that I feel covers the topic very well.
1st Corinthians 13:4
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
This my friends is a scripture from the bible highlighting attributes that everyone and their grandmother would say are good qualities to have. These are the things you should add. These things should be your “content”. These things should be a part of your “blue print”. These are qualities that everyone would consider “good fruit“. These are the things we teach little children to aspire to. These are the things that should continue well into adult-hood. It takes wisdom and courage to seek and absorb good sources of learning. So, I ask again, what is your content, what is your blue print, what kind of tree are you?
Do not be alarmed by the title "MIND IS THE MASTER" that is not to say that God the Father is not. What it means is your mind will allow you to master yourself helping you to live a life that the Father is proud of. Remember this verse Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Now with that being said I present to you James Allen. After most of the paragraphs I will be providing my own commentary on what Mr. Allen wrote.
James Allen 1
“If you would acquire overcoming power you must
cultivate poise and passivity.
You must be able to stand alone. All power
is associated with immovability.
The mountain, the massive
rock, the storm-tried oak, all speak to us of power, because of
their combined solitary grandeur
and defiant fixity; while the
shifting sand, the yielding twig,
and the waving reed speak to
us of weakness, because they are
movable and non-resistant,
and are utterly useless when
detached from their fellows.
He is the man of power who, when
all his fellows are swayed
by some emotion or passion,
remains calm and unmoved.
He only is fitted to command
and control who has succeeded
in commanding and controlling himself.”
In the previous paragraph author James Allen eloquently outlines exactly what I write about in my book “Harness the Power Within and Without”. This is exactly what I mean by “Self Mastery under the Kingdom of Heaven”! Being “unswayed” by popular emotions and passions like:
Cheating on your wife or husband
Being rude or narcissistic
And anything else we were taught not to do in elementary and Sunday school, that all of a sudden as an adult has become ok
One very important key to self mastery is to control passions, in fact, negative passions especially, should not even be allowed to take root in your life. In the Shu Ha Ri Do symbol the mind is represented by a burst of light, the spirit (i.e passions, ambitions, desires etc) is represented by fire, and the body is represented by water. The mind is driven by content, the spirit is driven by thought, and the body is driven by passion. Make sure your passions are righteous!
As paul wrote in 1st Corinthians 9:24-27 24″ Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”
James Allen 2
“The hysterical, the fearful, the
thoughtless and frivolous, let
such seek company, or they will
fall for lack of support; but
the calm, the fearless, the
thoughtful, and let such seek the
solitude of the forest, the desert,
and the mountain-top, and
to their power more power
will be added, and they will
more and more successfully stem
the psychic currents and
whirlpools which engulf mankind.”
Yes, yes I could not have said it better! Troubling activities are indeed engulfing and being approved by mankind. One point is clear from the above paragraph, and that is, that self mastery under the Kingdom of Heaven is a lonely path, not many will accompany you in your journey.
James Allen 3
“Passion is not power; it is the
abuse of power, the dispersion
of power. Passion is like a furious
storm which beats fiercely
and wildly upon the embattled
rock whilst power is like the
rock itself, which remains silent
and unmoved through it all.”
Ancient Samurais were surgical with their swords. Your passions are like a sword make sure they are righteous and do not let them rule you. Be surgical!
James Allen 4
“That was a manifestation of true
power when Martin Luther,
wearied with the persuasions of
his fearful friends, who were
doubtful as to his safety should
he go to Worms, replied, ―If
there were as many devils in
Worms as there are tiles on the
housetops I would go. And when
Benjamin Disraeli broke
down in his first Parliamentary
speech, and brought upon
himself the derision of the
House, that was an exhibition
of germinal power when he
exclaimed, ―The day will come
when you will consider it an
honor to listen to me.
When that young man, whom
I knew, passing through
continual reverses and misfortunes,
was mocked by his
friends and told to desist from
further effort, and he replied,
―The time is not far distant
when you will marvel at
my good fortune and success,
he showed that he was
possessed of that silent and
irresistible power which has taken
him over innumerable difficulties,
and crowned his life with
success. If you have not this
power, you may acquire it by
practice, and the beginning of
power is likewise the beginning
of wisdom. You must commence
by overcoming those
purposeless trivialities to
which you have hitherto been a
“Purposeless Trivialities” I can only smile at the surgical nature of that statement. Just think of the daily “pop culture” routine and ask yourself what is the purpose?
“Boisterous and uncontrolled laughter, slander and idle talk, and joking merely to raise a laugh, all these things must be put on one side as so much waste of valuable energy.”
So long ago this was written and how accurate it is today. We live in a constant gag reel of “JK” (just kidding) “LOL” and “YOLO” that one should ask the question what is all of that energy expended just to gain a laugh gaining me in life. Sure laughter is good for the soul however, the constant laughter of today’s youth prevents them from being able to take anything seriously.
James Allen 5
“St. Paul never showed his wonderful
insight into the hidden
laws of human progress to greater
advantage than when he
warned the Ephesians against
Foolish talking and jesting
which is not convenient, for
to dwell habitually in such
practices is to destroy all
spiritual power and life.
As you succeed in rendering
yourself impervious to such
mental dissipation you will
begin to understand what true
power is, and you will then
commence to grapple with the
more powerful desires and
appetites which hold your soul in
bondage, and bar the way to power,
and your further progress
will then be made clear.”
THIS MY FRIENDS IS A PROFOUND ILLUSTRATION OF WHAT I MEAN BY SELF MASTERY UNDER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN!
Hello my conscious people out there. This quiz is derived from “The Book of Hai Clue”. I call it the Hai Clue Quiz. In this quiz are questions that will reveal hidden truths. This quiz is the first of more to come. Are you aware, or as the youth call it “woke”? Take this 7 question quiz to test your level of awareness. The questions are simple, but the answers will amaze some of you.
Meditate for a second on the incredible vision of a fly.
A fly’s eye is made up of what are called ommatidia
which are basically photo receptors that provide the fly with visual information about it’s environment. The average fly has more than 3300 ommatidia. Each ommatidia is like an eye unto itself. So in summary, what a fly sees is reproduced more than 3300 times. A fly’s vision is incredible. So, here’s the question, if the fly could see the spiders web
would he still get caught in it? With all that eye power why didn’t it see the web? Perhaps, the answer is because the spider is good at what he does.
Realize that the “spider” is good at what he does.
If you ever were caught, and freed yourself from the “web” would you fly in that direction again? If so what could possibly entice you to continue the same self destructive flight pattern? What could be worth entrapping yourself again? If you did happen to free yourself be aware that you only barely escaped the web weaver.
One mindset you must adopt in order to embrace the Shu Ha Ri Do Warrior’s Code is to learn how not to victimize your own self.
