UNIQUE FORMS AND MOVEMENTS OF SHU HA RI DO CALLED “COMS”(COMBAT MANEUVERS)

As some of you already know within Shu Ha Ri Do there are original

movements, and forms that are called COMS short for Combat Maneuvers.

When I created Shu Ha Ri Do 20 years ago I wanted to represent all

phases of combat, from distance, close quarters, and the ground. Each COM

expresses all phases of combat. Although we do mitt training, bag work,

FOCUSED GROUP

sparring, shadow boxing, and so much more. I felt in order for Shu Ha Ri Do

to be a complete system forms i.e COMS were necessary.  A COM like a Kata

can be considered meditation in motion.  So when a student practices the

techniques in a COM repeatedly thousands of times he is actually training

his mind for a scenario. When that scenario presents itself the mind has

seen it so many times that the body seems to move by itself as if on auto

pilot!
